timeless classic beloved of the Victorians. Also known as the 'cast iron' plant due to its solid fortitude in the face of less than perfect conditions. Surviving in cold, draughty and smoke-filled parlours and hallways with barely a complaint, itâ"s no wonder these plants have soldiered on for over a century.

Aspidistras have a wonderfully elegant, upright form. They're a go-to plant for lower light conditions and their vertical habit makes them ideal for narrow spaces.

While this plant is famous for its stoic tolerance of low light and infrequent watering, it will grow more quickly and flourish given a little more attention. However, growth is never rapid, even in optimum conditions.

Give it a brightly lit spot. Tolerant of shade it's also happy with some direct sun which makes it particularly versatile.
